National Depression Screening Day

The first full week in October each year is National Mental Illness Awareness week. As a part of this effort, Thursday, October 10 is National Depression Screening Day.

One in ten American adults suffer from clinical depression. And as Bernadette and I have discovered, admitting that there’s a problem and looking into treatment is an enormous hurdle, especially for men. If you have someone in your life you think could be suffering from depression, the depression assessment tool from Screening for Mental Health could be one way to approach your loved one about the subject. The anonymous nature of this online resource may seem less threatening than a personal conversation or a doctor appointment, and can spark a fruitful exchange that could lead toward a path of healing.

You can find more information about Mental Health Awareness week at National Alliance on Mental Illness.
