Depression Takes a Holiday

As I child I always loved to read books in a series; often one selection in the series would be along the lines of “So and So Takes a Holiday.” On this Labor Day weekend I’m (quietly and cautiously) celebrating depression in our household going on holiday.

As I’ve written recently, the very up-and-down nature of my husband’s depression leads me to distrust this abating of symptoms, but for the last week things have been pretty good. There’s been lighthearted joking and laughter. Tasks have been planned and executed successfully. The most dreaded chore, which had been turned over to The Boy until he moved away to college, has been completed (lawn mowing – yuck!). This afternoon, husband plans to return to his online research for career change options.

Combined with a lovely cool day after a couple of weeks of 100 degree temperatures, it all makes this Labor Day holiday feel peaceful, relaxed, even joy-full.

May your holiday be a good one, as well.
